here’s to the globetrotting moms out there…

Mother's Day

…to the moms who sort and organize all their stuff into piles of Bring Immediately, Bring Later, Store, Sell or Donate

…to the moms who manage mountains of preparations — passports and visas, doctor’s appointments, goodbye trips to family and friends, the change of address, shipping the car, and so many other things

…to the moms who walk their babies up and down the aisle of the plane, who hold the hands of their older kids and tell them it’s going to be all right, even if they’re not sure themselves

…to the moms who arrive with exhausted kids in the middle of the night and wake-up the next morning in a strange country and set-out determined to find a grocery store

…to the moms who-have-been-there-awhile and welcome the new moms into their homes, feed them, give them directions, help them find their way

…to the moms who are starting a new job, even while they are making a new life in a new place for their family

…to the moms who hang up pictures, Skype with grandparents, and do whatever it takes to make the miles seem shorter

….to the moms who support their husbands in following their dreams, even if those dreams are in Timbuktu

…to the moms who are doing it all on their own

…to the moms who check the backyards for cobras before their kids go outside to play, who wash the fruit twice, who hold their breath as their kids ride unbelted in the back of the taxi in some crazy traffic

…to the moms who make Christmas and Halloween and Easter special even if they don’t have all the ingredients and decorations they need

…to the moms out there, spread far and wide, the brave moms, the globetrotting moms —

Happy Mother’s Day!
